Hey everyone! I am at school and I moved into my flat on Sunday - although I still haven't really unpacked! My flat is interesting...it's a little run down and smells a bit but it's really close to campus and has everything I need! Think a combination of a camp, a run down cottage, and a queen's ghetto house and you'll have an idea of where I'm staying - it's really not bad though. I've met 2 of my flatmates - Sarah from California, and Scotty from here. Duncan from Scotland is away on some trip. People here are really nice so far and very laid back - a little hippyish. This guy I just met gave me his spare cell phone to use - which is awesome because that saves me about $100 - now I just have to buy a plan.
Dunedin is a pretty cool city - my parents and I saw yellow-eyed penguins at a penguin reserve near by when they were here - that was pretty cool. Dunedin also has the steepest street in the world - Baldwin St - and we drove up and down which was a little scary! Today some of us went out to a beach and picked cockles (kind of like clams) out of the sand in the bay. It was pretty cool because we collected them and then cooked them for dinner with pasta! I don't actually start class until March 2 so I have a little time to kind of explore, settle in, do whatever until then.
When we left Queenstown for Dunedin we ended up stopping at the bungy jumping bridge, which is along the highway, to watch people jump off the bridge. Somehow stopping to watch turned into my dad going bungy jumping and then me going bungy jumping!!!!!! It was CRAZY but so fast I don't remember much of it to be honest! But we have video and picture proof!
In Queenstown we also went jetboating and hiking up the sumit of the "Queenstown Hill". I put that in bracket because it was NO hill - I would definitely define this mound of earth as a mountain - it was SO steep and pretty good exercise we though until we saw some people running the trail!! Yikes.
I think those are all the stories I have for now. I miss everyone lots!
